The Invitational Shootout family is mourning the loss of Bob Senne, a longtime competitor and three-time division champion who created some of the tournament’s most enduring memories alongside his son, Tom.
Bob passed away on September 15, 2026. He will be remembered at the Shootout as a determined competitor, a steady partner and, most of all, a father who shared three championship victories with his son.
Bob’s first Shootout title came in 2012, when he and Tom teamed up for the first time and won the Legends Division at Water’s Edge Golf Club. The Sennes shot a 1-over-par 73 to win the division by three strokes.
For Tom, the victory ended years of close calls at the Shootout. He had finished second at the inaugural tournament in 1994, again in 2001 and once more in 2007. It was fitting that the breakthrough finally arrived with his father beside him.
“It’s kind of ironic that I needed my dad’s help to finally win here, after so many close calls over the years,” Tom said after their victory. “I guess it proves that my dad is still always right and that’s fine with me. He played really well today and allowed me to hit the ball as hard as I could. Who knew we would be such a good team?”
Bob’s response captured the resolve that he and Tom brought to the course.
“If there’s one thing Sennes are good at, it’s fighting,” Bob said. “We might be down, but we’re never out. We knew that if we could keep making pars and find a birdie or two, we would be alright.”
That 2012 championship was not the end of their story. Four years later, Bob and Tom won the inaugural Super Legends Division in 2016, posting a 3-under-par 69 at Water’s Edge. They returned in 2017 and successfully defended the title with an even-par 72, becoming back-to-back Super Legends champions.
Their 2017 performance offered one more example of how well their games complemented each other. Bob consistently found the fairway, giving Tom opportunities to attack. Tom made three putts of more than 30 feet, while Bob nearly holed a 125-yard approach on the 17th hole.
“Some of the shots we hit today were ridiculous,” Tom said afterward. “There’s really no other way to describe them. But that’s just how we compete.”
Bob continued making his presence felt at the Shootout. In 2018, he won the closest-to-the-pin contest on the third hole, adding another memorable accomplishment to a tournament career defined by longevity, competitiveness and family.
The trophies tell part of Bob Senne’s Shootout story: the 2012 Legends championship and consecutive Super Legends titles in 2016 and 2017. But his lasting legacy is found in something larger. The Invitational Shootout has always been about bringing family and friends together through golf, and few competitors embodied that spirit more completely than Bob.
He and Tom did more than win together. They gave the Shootout a father-and-son partnership that became part of the tournament’s history.
